Expressing the harmony of tradition and modernism with the properties of Container and soil. Jung, Hye-Mi
Artist Jung, Hye-Mi’s pieces, which show excellent harmony between modernism and tradition, are mostly craftwork with an emphasis on the properties of Container and soil; such pieces have strong objet feels to them.
The artist takes the emotions that stem from relationships and imagination that come from the lingering imagery, carefully applying them to her pottery with the tips of her fingers. By expressing the spaces of inside and out, she speaks about communication that encompasses minds and hearts.
Since centuries ago, Container was an object that contained the most valuable belongings in that era. It contains the life and culture of the people back then. The artist thought carefully about how she could use the Container to well express a modern beauty based on tradition, both in terms of function and artistry. The artist’s visualized inner form is expressed in the form of a water drop, which resembles nature. Also, this symbolizes women and tears. This very image, which contains life within it, made possible the elegant usage of Container.
New life that is given birth by well-watered earth can be realized through something contained within a ‘Container.’
Through such Container that carry peoples’ hearts, purification, healing, and the energy of life that all come from nature will undoubtedly be delivered into our lives.

Lacquered celadon bowl set: Traces that linger around relationships have been expressed on the pottery with the artist’s fingertips. Sap of the lacquer tree was added to pottery full of properties, which was then reinterpreted in the modern sense.
Lacquered celadon Container: The surface is full of the energy of fire, thanks to the texture of soil, and the piece was finished with a light touch of lacquering. The interior was done as a celadon. Depending on the texture of the soil’s clay and the number of times lacquering has been done, one can enjoy various textures and color senses from these pieces.
Beige Container: The artist glazed the surface of a Container manually made from pure soil; the Container consequently maintains elegance without any special adornments, and allows people to enjoy the deep original colors of soil.
Mug set: Celadon and white porcelain mugs, complete as a set, that were designed with the Incheon Asian Games emblem as a motif. They contain the touched hearts of Incheon Asian Games as well as the class and dignity of Korea. This VIP mug cup set is an official souvenir of the Incheon Asian Games.
Water drop-shaped floral intaglio Container: On top of the pure and clear image of water, the livelihood of floral patterns is delicately expressed using intaglio and relief. Plant patterns are naturally mixed with the outline shape that reminds one of a water droplet.
Golden lacquer ceramics glass: This piece was finished by repeatedly lacquering on a glass made from soil, which enhanced the piece, then applying pure gold leaf layers upon layers. As much as one can feel the dedication gone into the piece, the glass also shows the precious hearts of the gift-givers.
Lacquered ceramics mug: Thanks to the harmony between enamel and lacquer, the interior is full of a sense of refreshment and depth that stem from soil and glaze, while the exterior has a natural look coming from the balance between clay’s texture and lacquer.

전통과 현대의 조화를 합과 흙의 물성으로 표현하다. 정혜미
현대와 전통의 절묘한 조화를 선보이는 정혜미 작가의 작품은 공예품에 있어서도 오브제의 성향이 가장 뚜렷하게 나타나는 합과 흙의 물성을 느낄 수 있는 작품이 주를 이룹니다.
작가는 안과 밖의 공간을 표현하여 마음을 담는 소통을 이야기 합니다.
합은 예로부터 그 시대에 진귀한 것들을 보관하였던 물품이였습니다.
>당시 사람들의 삶과 문화가 담겨있습니다. 작가는 기능은 물론 예술적 면에서 전통을 기반으로 한 현대적 미(美)를 어떻게 합에 잘 담아낼 수 있는지 고찰하였습니다.
시각화된 작가의 내적형태의 표현은 자연의 형상을 닮은 물방울 형태로 표현하고 있습니다. 또한 여성과 눈물을 상징하기도 합니다. 그 안에 생명을 함께 담아내는 이 같은 이미지는 합의 기품있는 쓰임을 가능케 하였습니다.
촉촉하게 물을 머금은 대지가 잉태하는 새로운 생명은 ‘합(盒)’에 담기는 무언가를 통해 구현 될 수 있을 것입니다.
마음을 담는 합을 통하여 우리의 삶 안에 자연에서 오는 정화와 치유, 생명의 기운을 전달 할 수 있을 것이라 기대해 봅니다.

청자옻칠볼SET : 관계의 머무름 그 흔적을 손끝으로 도자기에 표현하였습니다.
물성을 느낄 수 있는 도자 위에 옻이라는 소재를 더하여 현대적으로 재해석하였습니다.
청자옻칠합 : 바깥면에 불의 기운이 느껴지는 합으로 마감을 연하게 옻칠을 하였으며 안쪽엔 청자로 작업되었습니다.
옻칠을 여러 번 칠한 진한 청자옻칠합과 연한 청자옻칠합이 있으며 흙의 표면이 살아난 청자옻칠합이 있습니다.
베이지합 : 강진청자의 흙으로 빚어진 합이 투명하게 처리하여 흙의 깊이있는 본 색감을 느낄 수 있습니다.
청자합 : 청자의 본고지인 강진의 흙과 그 흙으로 만든 유약의 청자합에 안쪽엔 옻칠을 더해서 작업되었습니다.
