Mirum beau is the trasformation of 3D products to 2D products using paper.
Hanji is traditional Korean paper handmade from mulberry trees.
It can also be called 'Baeck-ji'. Baek means one jundred times.
This reflects Hanji's complex and multiple producing methods.
The craftmen cut the trees. The then cut logs are made steaming hot,boiled, peeled, hit, knitted,dried
and go through numerous other process to become Hanji.
It requires about 99 times cares to become Hanji and the final 100th step is the final user's touch.
Through the elaborate manufacturing processes, preservability and endurance are remarkably increased.
You can be assured of this fact from the oldest books of Hanji in Korea.
It is durable but soft, thick but silky and luxurious yet stylish at same time.
As time passes, the added age and wear adds to it a mature beauty.
The main thoughts of what should represent Mirumbeau goods was that it should be environmentally freindly,
durable, humourous, adaptable, while still being truly Korean, modern, and beautiful with in a reasonable price range so that it is affordable to everyone.
With thoughts of the future in mind, Yu-ju Lee decided that Hanji would be the main material.
Then suddenly everything seems clear. It is gemeraaly thought that Hanji used for oriental paintings or oriental art carfts and its usage is limited.
But the truth is different. There have been various developments with deffernet goods using Hanji in many fields. This results in incerased demand for Hanji.
Yu-ju Lee also reinterpreted Korean tradition and combined it with modern and sophisticated design.
She made goods which excite nostalgia. The other major concept was trasformation of existing 3D goods to 2D goods through flattening process.
The formation from line, face to cubic could be regarded as an upgrading process, but Yu-ju, Lee wanted give retrogression a try to pursue simplified beauty.
The target group are not only teenagers who enjoy new and humorous items but also elders who miss the analog mechanism of their past.
The main theme of the graphic used in the goods is nostalgia. It is printed onto silk.
This process levels up the quality of the products. They are suited not only as souvenirs in hotel or shops or airlines but also as goods in museums or arts shops in galleries.
Because they are lightweight, portable products made with Hanji, they are ideal as tourism products.

미룸보에서 사용되는 닥나무로 만드는 한지는 정성이 깃든 공정을 거치게 됩니다. 나무를 베어 찌고,삶고,벗기고,두드리고,뜨고,말려 한 장의 한지가 되기까지 아흔 아홉 번의 손이 가며 마지막으로 종이를 쓰는 사람의 백번째 손길을 거쳐야 종이가 완성된다고 하여 백지라고도 불립니다. 실크스크린 기법으로 인쇄하고 옆 테두리에는 바느질을 하여 핸드메이드의 가치를 높였습니다.
